Finding Just The Right Way To Enhance Your Home

by Jim Buckman
July 19, 2025

Even though your home is likely your biggest investment, you might not have a lot of money to spend on renovations. Fortunately, there are a few ideas that you can try that can give your home a luxurious appearance no matter what kind of budget you have.

A Starting Point

Try to treat the rooms in your home as blank canvases. Look at the colors on the walls, the details along the ceiling, and the structures that are already in place to figure out how you can expand upon them with decorations and new ideas.

Color

A splash of color goes a long way when transforming your home to give it an expensive look. Consider using paint that will give your walls and other surfaces a glossy appearance as this can make it appear as though you’re spent more money.

Linens

When you’re decorating your bathroom, hang towels on hooks that are plush and that are in colors that blend with the theme in the room. Avoid using white towels because they can often retain stains and can sometimes make the room appear a bit less expensive. Pillows, sheets, and blankets fall into this category as well as you want to use items that you’re proud to display.

Walls

Add texture to any room of your home with molding. This feature can enhance everything from the ceiling to the baseboard depending on what area needs to a little more character. Art on the walls can add personality and can give your home an expensive look. You can usually find unique pieces in second-hand stores or expensive items that are on sale in craft stores. Make your ceilings appear higher by using longer window coverings.

Accessories

There are numerous accessories that can be used in your home to make it look expensive. Place a few magazines on the coffee table or on an end table. Use glass table lamps in the living room. You can also swap out the hardware in some of the rooms in your home so that it’s a different color or design.

Backsplash

Whether it’s in the kitchen or the living room, backsplash can add a pop of color and create an expensive look. Marbled effects work well if you’re looking for a sophisticated appearance.

Give the illusion of more space in your home by placing a few mirrors in a hallway or in a sitting area. If you have items that you want to display that you’ve spent a lot of money on, then consider putting them on a bookshelf along with books and magazines. Choose a few statement pieces that will stand out in your home, such as a rug in the living room or a chandelier in the dining room.
