Smart tech includes air conditioners, refrigerators, thermostats and other appliances that have Wi-Fi capabilities. You can use your smart phone to control those devices. These devices are not cheap. In fact, there are some appliances that can cost thousands of dollars.

There are several types of smart appliances. Some are basic while others are more complex. Aggressive marketing techniques have greatly increased the revenue for the smart home industry. There was a $48 billion market for smart home appliances in the US in 2014. Experts are expecting that number to increase to $3.7 billion by the year 2021.

Smart home appliances are growing in popularity. In fact, it is estimated that 37.2 percent of homes will have smart appliances by the year 2021. In 2016, only 8.2 percent of homes had smart home appliances. There is a great demand for these appliances because people are interested in protecting the environment.

You may be wondering if you can save money with smart home devices. While the initial investment may be quite high, you can save money over time. There are several ways that you can save money with smart appliances regardless of whether you are a homeowner or renter.

Smart thermostats

Heating and cooling is one of the main things that can determine how much you spend on your energy bill. A smart thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature of your heating and cooling system. Programmable thermostats can help you save up to 25 percent on your energy bill.

Smart lighting

Lighting is another thing that can affect the cost of your energy bill. A smart lighting system will turn off, dim and change colors when necessary. You can save $35 per year for every LED bulb that you have.

You can also save money on your water bill. Smart sprinklers will adjust the amount of water that they let go through. This can help you save 50 percent on your water bill.

Smart power outlets

Standby power contributes to 16 percent of your energy use. Smart outlets will monitor the amount of energy in your sockets and restrict it when necessary. There are several types of smart power outlets that you can use. Every smart outlet will use different amounts of energy.

If you plan on renting a place, then you may want to move into a place that already have these appliances. It is a lot easier for you to move into a smart home than it is for you to have to build one.
